Encrypt and Decrytp your files in linux with Password


There are many tool to encrypt regular files in linux like gpg , mcrypt

I am using one of them : mcrypt

Install it :

sudo apt-get install mcrypt

sathia@sathia-laptop:~/Desktop$ mcrypt rename.rb
Enter the passphrase (maximum of 512 characters)
Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
Enter passphrase: *****
Enter passphrase:*****

File rename.rb was encrypted. and file will be saved as rename.rb.nc ย  .

Now no one can read text inside . It was encrypted inside ๐Ÿ™‚

If you want to decrypt the file same file . Enter the same password to decrypt the file ๐Ÿ™‚

 

sathia@sathia-laptop:~/Desktop$ mcrypt -d rename.rb.nc
Enter passphrase: *****
File rename.rb.nc was decrypted
