Installed Ruby on Rails in my Ubuntu


Hi Friends ,

I started working in Rails from yesterday . Mr.Thiyagarajan sir teached about me rails .

Yesteday I learnt how to install rails . But Today I started to work on a Project with him on rails 🙂

while doing I am learning deeply on HTML , Jquery etc ..

I am understanding many concept while working in project . . He was teaching me very well

.. And started teaching about AJAX and its uses . It was very useful

Installing Ruby on Rails in Ubuntu

step1:

$ sudo apt-get install ruby ruby-dev libopenssl-ruby1.8 irb ri rdoc

step2:

$ sudo apt-get install mysql-server sqlite3 libmysql-ruby

if you have mysql , you need not to do

step3:

$sudo apt-get install build-essential libmysqlclient-dev libmysql-ruby libsqlite3-ruby libsqlite3-dev

step4:

Installing rubygems –

$ wget http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/70697/rubygems-1.3.7.zip

$unzip rubygems-1.3.7.zip

$cd rubygems-1.3.7

$sudo ruby setup.rb

step5:

$ sudo gem install rails -v=2.3.8 mysql sqlite3-ruby mongrel

Everything is Installed

Now started travelling in rails 🙂

$rails -d mysql sample

$cd sample

$rake db:create

$rake db:migrate

$script/server – to start the server

Then go into your server http://localhost:3000

Yesterday done a small Application which will store name and date of Friends 🙂

This is my first web-Application in Ruby on Rails. This will continue 🙂
